Chelsea and Utd have made no pretence of their intensions for next season with their early forays into the transfer market. Arsene on the other hand, seems content to lose quality players. I say....it's time for Arsene to wake up and smell the..... transfer market.

On a day they narrowly lost the league title to Utd, Chelsea went out and splashed 16 million on a player, in a bid to bolster for next season. Arsene meanwhile was losing one of his more trusted midfeilder, M. Flamini in the same week.

Worse still, the guy went away for free. How much more of this Arsenal fans will take , I don’t know.

Today, it is well known in Europe and the world at large, that English clubs are extravagant spenders. A player who would go to Real Madrid for 8.5 million, would cost Manchester Utd or Chelsea FC a cool 13-15 million. This is the also main reason why English players rarely go to foreign clubs – they are vastly overpriced and I suppose this has impacted on Arsene’s ability to compete but then again, nobody said Arsenal were a poor club. They’ve just erected a 60,000 seat posh stadium, with all the perks that go with it. They’ve consistently reached the knock-out stages of the champions’ league for the last 10 years and counting. And they’ve mostly made profit from players sold in the last 3-4 years. There’s no way they are in need of cash.

In the meantime though, Chelsea and Utd are bolstering their already-powerful squads, and making sure they are prepared for the big time next season.

Truth is…. if Arsenal are to be able to compete with these teams next season, they will need to spend some cash and I’m not talking about bring more 18 y’olds into the squad and waiting another24 months for them to slide into prominence.

I’m talking young players nearing the peak of their game. Arsene needs a two defenders, two matured midfeilders and a goalkeeper of class.

The gauntlet has been thrown down this just-concluded season, it’s up to Arsene to accept or decline the challenge.

Methinks: The answer is in the transfer market.

Once again, Manchester Utd have ensured Chelsea came saw and left with their tails between their legs. We take a look at the flops of the day and the winners.

Arghhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!

Yeah…well, had to be done. Arsenal fan here hoping chelsea would win on the night. I guess that’s just too much to ask of Lampard and co.

If anything, it just went to prove that United are currently the best side not only in England but also in Europe. They had to defeat barcelona, Roma and now Chelsea to win the trophy. My hat goes off to Sir Alex, for sure. He’s managed to concoct a superb counter-attacking team within a few years of losing some of his more experienced players – Something, the Arsenal manager, Arsene has not quite been able to accomplish.

I thought over the whole season, Arsenal would have finished higher than they did, considering all the promise staring us starkly in the face especially when the team were five (5) points above their closest rivals with few games remaining. Somehow, they still managed to let it all slip away.

Better luck next season, though.

Back to the matter at hand, the champions league final, I thought it was a brilliant second 45 minutes. Certainly better than what both teams managed to produce the last time they met at the bridge. Having said that, my knock of the day would go straight to Drogba. Why does he always have to pick a fight out of thin air?

I would be surprised if he is still at chelsea next season, seriously. As for Nicolas Anelka, what can I say?

As soon as he stepped out to begin his trot towards the penalty spot, I knew Chelsea were doomed to lose the title. I actually left the sitting room to go get myself a “drink”. Anelka is probably the most selfish player I know in football today. Eight years ago, he denied real madrid the chance to finish off Corinthians due to some selfish desire to claim a hat trick, a pattern which has been echoed several times in his career and today, he’s done the same against Man Utd.

As for the rest players on the pitch, John Terry the epitome of over confidence and I thought Ballack and Lampard did superbly in midfeild.

My girlfriend would probably bite my head off, but for me the wrong team won. It just wasn’t chelsea’s day with both woodworks working heroics.

Better luck next time, guys.

In the meantime, congratulations to Sir Alex on extablishing yourself as the best British manager ever. You are a real star.

Till next time, peace y’all.
